This free summer event transforms the National Mall into a thriving, vibrant celebration of world culture. This year, the festival will focus on the cultures of Bhutan, Texas, and—a bit unexpectedly—NASA. Sample food, art, music, and participate in hands-on demonstrations. For the fourth year, thousands of people will gather at the Pentagon and walk to the National Mall to commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to show support for those serving in the Armed Forces. Organized by “America Supports You,” a program of the Department of Defense, the walk is free and open to the public, but registration is required. As the fourth largest marathon in the US and the seventh largest in the world, the Marine Corps Marathon is an amazing sporting spectacle. Now in its 31st year, the marathon typically draws more than 20,000 participants and many more spectators. This year’s course, nicknamed "The Marathon of the Monuments," will wind from Arlington, Virginia through the famous neighborhoods, sights, and monuments in DC.
